For three years after my second child, I tried everything. Calorie counting. Step goals. Cutting carbs. Weighing myself every Monday morning with a mixture of hope and dread.
Nothing stuck. And every time I "failed," I felt worse about myself than before I started.
Then one day I stopped. I stopped trying to lose weight entirely. And that's when everything actually changed.
The Problem With Chasing the Scale
When weight loss is the goal, your body becomes the enemy. Every meal is a calculation. Every missed workout is a failure. Every number that doesn't move is a reason to give up.
For busy moms who are already running on empty, this is a recipe for burnout — not transformation.
The scale also lies. It doesn't tell you that you've built muscle, improved your posture, reduced your back pain, or have more energy than you've had in years. It just shows a number. And we've been trained to let that number decide how we feel about ourselves.
What I Did Instead
I made one change: I stopped training to shrink and started training to feel something.
Specifically:
- I wanted to feel strong picking up my kids without my back aching
- I wanted to feel present and energised, not exhausted by 3pm
- I wanted to feel like me again — not just someone's mum
These goals had nothing to do with a number. And because of that, they were impossible to "fail" at.
The Shift That Changed Everything with body positivity weight loss
When you train for strength and energy instead of appearance, something surprising happens: you actually start showing up consistently.
Because you're not dreading the workout. You're not white-knuckling through it for a result you can't see yet. You're doing it because it makes you feel like yourself for 15 minutes — and that's a reward you feel that same day.
Consistency produces results. Results produce confidence. And confidence? That changes how you carry yourself in a way no diet ever could.
What I Use (Kept It Simple on Purpose)
I didn't overhaul my life. I made it as easy as possible to move for 15 minutes a day:
- Resistance bands on the sofa arm — for when I have 10 minutes and nothing else
- Jump rope by the door — 3 rounds when I need to clear my head
- Hip trainer while watching the kids' TV show
No gym. No schedule. No guilt when life gets in the way.
You Don't Need to Lose Weight to Win
You need to feel stronger. More energised. More yourself.
Stop fighting your body. Start working with it.
That's the shift. And it's available to you today — not after you hit some number on a scale.
